SPARty is an interactive installation designed for the annual street party of 401 Richmond, a design collective located in Toronto, Canada.
The name derives from the surrounding street names, Spadina, Peter, Adelaide and Richmond.
The project is situated on an alleyway between the aforementioned streets and is built off of the legacy of Jesus Hernandez who coined the term public space acupuncture.
The installation uses found material – orange fabric and wood to embrace revitalization of a laneway public space.
In order to activate social interaction both within the installation and among its users, the fabric is weaved through wooden scaffolding-like cubicles in a way that creates two levels of hammocks as well as canopy which subsequently creates an enclosed space.
